Tracy Ross Pennington, 54, of Edmond, OK, passed away February 23, 2013. He was born March 20, 1958 in Lincoln, NE to L. Robert and Jean Pennington.
Tracy graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Economics. Upon graduating, he went to work for Continental Emsco. It was during his employment here that he was sent to work in Woodward, OK, where he met the love of his life, Susan Williams. They met on a blind date and the rest is history. Susan and Tracy were married November 26, 1982 in Oklahoma City. Since that time, they have been inseperable. They have one daughter, Sarah, a "daddy's girl" who has always absolutely respected and adored her father.
Tracy worked for Tube Alloy starting out on drilling rigs and later moving up to become a sales representative. In 1985, he started his own business selling oilfield equipment, Pennington Tubular Products. In addition to being sucessfully self-employed, Tracy felt a call on his life to become a pastor. He pursued a Master's of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and preached his first revival in Spokane, WA.
In 2008, he became the pastor of Lakeview Baptist Church in Guthrie, OK. He and Susan enjoyed fellowship with a loving congregation and continued to attend as loyal members after his recent resignation in December 2012.
Several years preceding, was his retirement from Pennington Tubular Products. Early retirement was a long anticipated plan that Tracy worked hard to achieve so that he could enjoy traveling and quality time spent with his wife and family "while he was still young".
Tracy enjoyed taking trips with Susan, eating out at favorite restaurants and fishing. His recent hobby was fixing up a cabin on a lake property in Missouri. He was looking forward to spending time there relaxing and fishing.
Tracy is and always will be loved by so many. His dog, Fred, a faithful companion, enjoyed tagging along for rides in the truck and Tracy was known to order him his own hot dog or burger and cup of water from the fast food drive-through. Fred never wanted Tracy out of his sight.
Though often considered to be very reserved, Tracy had a great, although sometimes dry, sense of humor. Those who were fortunate to get to know him well, will have many memories that will no doubt bring a smile to their face.
Tracy was a man of integrity. Those that knew him say that he had a heart of gold. He had such an incredible impact on so many. He was a loyal husband, loving father, hard-worker, and always stood up for what is right. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, L. Robert and Jean Pennington. Tracy is survived by his wife of 30 years, Susan; his daughter, Sarah Greiner and husband Steven of Tulsa, OK; his sister, Pam Matthews and husband Dick of Phillips, ME; his brother, Robert Pennington and wife Janet of Springfield, NE; 3 nephews, Nic Miller, Zac Miller, and Charlie Pennington; 1 niece, Christy Pennington and a host of other loved family and friends.
A "celebration of Tracy's life" service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Lakeview Baptist Church, Guthrie. Private burial precedes the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
